Japanese Beetle

This photo was taken by me on July 29, 2009 at Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve in Michigan. These are two Japanese Beetles. There were several on the plants here when I found them. It was apparently mating season. These bugs are considered to be very destructive here in the United States. They are not a threat in their native Japan.
Despite the fact that they are an uncontrolled pest, they are still very beautiful to look at up close.
